Bruce Hackmann is the Economic Development Director for the newly-organized Callaway Chamber of Commerce after heading up the Fulton Area Development Corporation (FADC) for the past 23 years. The FADC was an independent, non-profit organization contracted to provide economic development services by the City of Fulton and Callaway County.
In his restructured position, Bruce will continue to focus on traditional economic development activities — including business recruitment, expansion and retention – as well as new initiatives to stimulate retail development. During his tenure with the FADC he has coordinated the successful recruitment of commercial and industrial projects, none more impactful than the attraction of Dollar General Corporation’s Midwest Distribution Center that resulted in a $52 million capital investment and almost 700 jobs. In 2015, Bruce was instrumental in the FADC’s efforts to establish the Show Me Innovation Center for entrepreneurial development as well as successfully recruit a new industry to Fulton — Henderson Products, Inc., the nation’s leading manufacturer of truck-mounted snow and ice removal equipment. He is also active in the Brick District Playhouse renovation and the current capital campaign to help fund it. Bruce serves as president of the Fulton Public Schools Foundation and as past president of the Kingdom of Callaway Historical Society.
Bruce was a novice in community development when he was asked to head up the FADC in 1993, having spent the bulk of his professional career as the Press Relations Director at Westminster College. At Westminster he directed the marketing and media relations for major foreign policy speeches at Westminster by Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush (twice), Mikhail Gorbachev, and other international dignitaries.
Bruce is married to his wife, Linda, and has two grown daughters. He holds a degree in mass communications from the University of Central Missouri and is a diehard Mizzou and St. Louis Cardinals fan.
